I'm a fan of action / spy novels and looked forward to trying to series. But I just couldn't stay engaged - I finally quit reading halfway through the 3rd book in the collection. There were constant inconsistencies, and the protagonist ends up feeling like a whiner being bounced around by the whims of others, rather than an action hero.There are lots of things that don't make sense. The main character, Jack Noble, will explain why it's very important that his partner travel to meet him in one city. The guy gets there, and a page later they decide to travel back to the city where the partner had been, so they can talk to Jack's contacts there. But then they don't bother to talk to contacts in that city either before taking off for a 3rd location.He goes from someone being a trusted partner to acting like the guy is trying to kill him, with no explanation. He's rude and unhelpful to potential partners, then upset that they don't help him. And one moment he's totally fine walking into his apartment, them an hour later with zero events having happened, says he can't go to his apartment because it's probably under serveillance.At a minimum, this series needs a strong editor. I liked that the foul language was kept to a nearly respectable level. Books two and three where a bit worse than the first. Sadly I found the whole series very predictable in general. I feel like if Jack Noble where a trophy buck he’d be on my wall right now because I know what he’s going to do before he does. It’s also disappointing that three separate books have basically the same ending. Book one he’s in the Marine Corp, gets involved with corrupt government agents, kills people and quits his job. Book two he’s working for the SIS, gets involved with corrupt government agents, kills people and quits his job. Book three he’s in business for himself, gets involved with corrupt government agents, kills people and quits his job. I don’t think it’s worth reading the next one. I think I know how it’ll go.
